One of the most beneficial parts of belonging to the IQM family is our Cluster Groups Programme.

Bringing Teachers Together

Since 2017 IQM schools which hold Centre of Excellence or Flagship status have been reaping the benefits of being part of our unique Cluster Groups. Organised on a geographical basis, Cluster Groups meet three times a year with member schools taking turns to host. The groups provide participating schools with the opportunity to build dynamic, sustainable teams through bespoke practitioner-led professional development.

The ethos of our Cluster Groups is entirely inclusive, they exist to bring teachers together so they can learn from each other. We believe it is only by sharing what works best in individual schools that we can all move forward to a more inclusive society.

Schools report that our Cluster Groups add value to their organisation and to all their stakeholders. IQM Clusters stand out from other organised inter-school groups in that they bring together schools who have demonstrated their commitment to inclusive practices. They provide impactful workshops, relevant INSET training and on-point seminars that lead to improvements in teaching and learning and evidently pupil outcomes.

Cluster Groups are an Opportunity

IQM Cluster Groups are cross-phrase, allowing everyone to contribute and learn, regardless of their setting. Each group is led by an IQM Ambassador. Meetings focus on practitioner-led sharing in areas like phonics, literacy, leadership, operational solutions, ICT, Wellbeing, and Outdoor Learning.

Kevin O’Neill is the IQM Ambassador for the Cluster Group catering for schools in Northern Ireland. Speaking about the programme he explained: “Our Cluster Groups strengthen relationships between our schools, teachers and those at system level. The Inclusion Team at the Department of Education attended one of our recent meetings to learn more about the programme.

Raising Standards

“The benefits of the Cluster Groups are clear for everyone to see,” he continued. “Headteachers increasingly see our Clusters as a mechanism for raising standards in their schools. Evidence shows the collaboration between our schools is leading to healthier, happier, and more inclusive schools. Leaders are better aware of inclusive recruitment and are seeing a greater retention of staff. “Schools are working hard to foster thriving home-school links. Stakeholders feedback that children in IQM Cluster schools have a strong sense of belonging and identity.  That each learner is valued and feels a part of the ‘bigger picture’,” Kevin explained.

“Cluster Groups are an invaluable part of being in the IQM family. They show a unique commitment towards creating an inclusive culture and redressing inequity. Frankly I don’t think any school can afford not to be involved with this initiative.”
